La Bussola del Pellegrino [ENG]

The Volunteer Association “Il Timone” (literally: the rudder) has been involved for many years in training, inclusion and reception for all those people whose journey through life brings them to the town of Sansepolcro.
According to tradition, the town originated from an oratory founded by two pilgrims, Aegidius and Arcanus, who brought back some relics from the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem (934). Not long after that (1012), a monastery was erected next to the primitive oratory and, little by little, around the monastery a village was built.
Sansepolcro, cradle of Renaissance culture, was the birthplace of Luca Pacioli and Piero della Francesca, master of perspective.
Saint Francis preached in this area and chose the hermitage of Montecasale as his home for a while. Situated high above the town, it is a central point on the route that leads the pilgrim from the La Verna Sanctuary to Assisi.
“La Bussola del Pellegrino” is the service of the Association “Il Timone” to assist those who walk through our area.
